a successful sales person makes a good leader because he/she inspire trust. Building trustworthiness means building leadership skills. I am not saying to scam your way to your customers, which will leads you to disaster for sure. But I am saying, building trust is understanding your product or service, understanding your prospect need and assuring responsability for delivering results to your customers no matter what.
